This Feeling Inside

One of the most important things you must decide upon before declaring your novel (your child, your masterpiece, your mess, your love, your birthright unborn as of yet), completed is what do you want your readers to feel as they read your words?

Some books are written to evoke fear, some to bring peace, others to create laughter. The best kinds of books will do all of the above, as well as bring tears to the reader's eyes, and a sigh of contentment to the reader's heart.

But what will your reader walk away with? What do you want those reading your precious work of art, your novel, to pack away into their mind after the book is done.

When a reader puts the book down and walks back into the world, if they take a piece of your story with them, you know you have written something Great.

Decide what the essence of your book is. It can change as you continue writing, but have one to work with. Through this, the essence of your story breathes. A book cannot survive without air. Find some. Implement it. Breathe life into your work, and make something real.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day." -2 Corinthians 4:16
